From Blank Canvas to Art Gallery: Celebrating New StARTs at Astoria Park Senior Living
At Astoria Park Senior Living, creativity doesn't have an age limit.
Over the past several weeks, our residents have been exploring color, technique, imagination, and self-expression through our New StARTs Fine Arts Program. What began with individual canvases, paintbrushes, and a willingness to try something new has grown into something we're incredibly proud to share.
Our New StARTs Art Gallery Wall at Astoria Park Senior Living is officially complete.
The finished gallery now provides a permanent place in our Pasadena senior living community to showcase resident artwork and celebrate the people behind each piece.
More Than an Art Class
New StARTs was created to give residents opportunities to explore their creativity through guided painting experiences while enjoying the social connection that comes from creating alongside friends and neighbors.
Throughout the program, residents worked on their own individual pieces, explored different artistic approaches, and watched their collections grow one painting at a time.
But the value of an experience like New StARTs extends beyond what eventually appears on the canvas.
Creative programs provide opportunities for residents to make choices, express themselves, learn something new, spend meaningful time with others, and experience the satisfaction of completing something they can proudly call their own.
A Gallery Made by Our Residents
Rather than putting the paintings away when the program was complete, we wanted the residents' work to continue being seen and celebrated.
The new New StARTs Art Gallery Wall transforms their artwork into a permanent community display.
Framed resident paintings now line the wall alongside a New StARTs display commemorating the program and the residents who participated. Together, the collection tells the story of a shared creative journey.
For our artists, it is an opportunity to walk past something they created and know that their work matters.
For families and visitors, it offers another glimpse into life at Astoria Park and the experiences residents are creating here.

Creativity, Connection and Continued Growth
Senior living should offer opportunities to continue discovering interests, developing talents, building friendships, and trying new things.
That philosophy is reflected throughout New StARTs.
Some residents may come to an art program with years of experience. Others may pick up a paintbrush believing they aren't artistic at all. The goal isn't to create professional artists. It's to provide the opportunity to participate, experiment, enjoy the process, and see what happens.
Sometimes the result is a beautiful painting.
Sometimes it's a new friendship.
Sometimes it's the confidence that comes from saying, "I made that."
Those are the moments we want to create more of at Astoria Park Senior Living.
The Gallery Is Complete, but We're Just Getting Started
Completing our New StARTs Art Gallery Wall marks a special milestone, but it isn't the end of our residents' creative journey.
It is a reminder of what is possible when residents are given meaningful opportunities to create, connect, learn, and continue growing.
We are incredibly proud of every resident who participated in New StARTs and contributed to this beautiful collection.
To our Astoria Park artists: congratulations. Your masterpieces have officially earned their place on the wall.
